This is a film I am extremely excited about that shoots this spring. I star in and wrote the screenplay, which is derived from an idea I have had for roughly 5 years now (which stems from something I've had with me throughout my entire life.
When I was a kid I used to wonder - what if the same thing was happening RIGHT now - but on another planet. I had no awareness at the time of Quantum Mechanics, String Theory, etc - it was just an idea that intrigued me, even at eight years old.
Flash forward to around 2005 - and an idea forming...
The basic idea I had was as follows:
A young man, living with his girlfriend - who is from a well-to-do family - watches her leave for the day, just like any other day...to work...the gym...to take a walk...any of the normal mundane activities that we all take for granted...
...and she never returns...
He starts searching for answers and finds none - nor does he find anything around him proving that he ever even knew her or that she even exists. To complicate matters, he is pursued by strange men in business suits, for reasons he does not know.
That is the jist of it. I could just never figure out where to take the story or how to end it.
Fall 2009 - daylight savings time is on a different day...it confuses people and computers...
Somehow this triggered something in me - is time really that easy to disrupt? Is it a computer glitch? What was it? Is there a "balance" that must be kept?
This prompted me to theorize a rough outline for what was to become "15 Till Midnight" - the word fifteen representing a fifteen minute difference in time between this world and the parallel worlds that exist both after it and before it. You could step three worlds ahead and be forty-five minutes in the future - or you could step six worlds back and be an hour and a half in the past. I used the basic premise of the story I'd had for the past five years and went from there.
As for the balance of time...if time is really so fragile that a simple computer glitch can confuse both electronics as well as people - what would happen if this happened on a PLANETARY scale?
My original intention was to try and shoot this project myself as a guerilla "run-and-gun" feature. However, my friend and business partner Dave Meyers (Wolfgang Meyer) took a strong liking to the storyline and script - and everything seemed to fall into place and Rotten Apple Productions NYC was soon carrying the film with Dave as director.
A healthy "viral" buzz was soon generated about the film, with articles on quietearth.us, fatally-yours.com, dreadcentral.com, bloody-disgusting.com, shocktillyoudrop.com, and numerous other online resources. One site even referred to it as "Eternal Sunshine of the Horror Mind" and comparisons have been drawn to Vanilla Sky and the Bourne movies. Quiet Earth actually put it in a "most anticipated" list alongside the 300 sequel and other big guns. Wow.
I plan on releasing more information on the production of the time as time progresses. Currently in the cast, aside from myself, is Dee Martin from Rotten Apple's previous film "GATE OF FALLEN ANGELS" as well as up-and-coming actress Devanny Pinn. More casting news will come in the near future and make sure to check out the film's IMDb site at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1761677/ for more developments as they become official...
Needless to say, I can't wait to see what becomes of this...
